Master's Research

 My research focuses on developing and refining image-based methods for monitoring the health of coral reefs. With increasing water temperatures, coral reefs across the globe are experiencing mass bleaching events. When coral experiences a bleaching event, the color of the coral changes, and this data can be recorded with modern cameras, imaging technology, and image recognition algorithms. For my MSc research, I aim to develop a method to quantify the chlorophyll concentration of corals through imaging with a standard color chart. The results of this research can assist coral reef monitoring efforts worldwide by providing an efficient and practical method of monitoring coral reef health. In addition, I aim to raise awareness for these causes through filmmaking and storytelling.
